Problem
While we were working on the removal and restoration of the Barmouth viaduct we were asked if we could offer flexible access to the underside of the new bridge spans.
Solution
We floated in and hoisted the 8m x 6.4m ScaffFloat Workboat with 2 x high thrust Yamaha 100hp outboards that was already mobilised. The engines give 1.5t bollard pull and it has a 2t deck winch and crane that can lift 500kg at 5m. This ScaffFloat has a self weight of 4t and a floating and hoisted payload of the same.
We hoisted the work boat from above with a gantry crane. It was lifted without anyone onboard, then once tied into the structure before being used to provide access to the new bridge.
