Diving & UXO

If you are looking for a stable platform to perform diving operations in categorised waters then ScaffFloat can provide a very cost-effective solution for medium and long-term projects.

We can make the pontoon to whatever size you need. For example, if you only have a dive trailer and hand carriable plant and equipment (generators, gas bottles etc) then you could use an 8×6.4m.

If you need a larger, heavier dive spread then the 16mx6.4 m gives over 100m2 of clear, flat deck space and a significant payload of nearly 10t. It is popular with divers as it can take a full dive spread including dive control container, welfare, storage, quads, generator, compressor, and other associated equipment, and give you a floating home on the water for longer dive projects which can last weeks or months.

All our dive pontoons come with the option of propulsion, which allows them to make short passages around the port, up and down the river or around the dive site.

For divers, we can add a variety of water entry systems including a water-level dive platform or diver ladders with handrails. We can also run a scaffold structure overhead to keep the deck clear of lighting and umbilical cabling, and add useful extras like horns for coiling umbilical cable or our famous diver’s throne.

Diver Extras

  • Water Access: Our water-level access shelf provides easy, safe access to the water. It also provides an option for recovering an unconscious or injured diver. If more basic access is required, we can add steel ladders at a 5-degree angle that extend at least 1.5m below the water. These can be movable and placed anywhere we leave a gated or chained 1m gap in the handrails.
  • Size: We can make a pontoon any size to meet your dive spread payload and required deck space.
  • Propulsion: We can add high-thrust outboard pods to our ScaffFloat pontoons, turning them into vessels for work in categorised waters. This adds significant value for commercial divers, making them self-sufficient and allowing them to avoid reliance on tugs and workboats for movement.
  • Overhead Gantry: We can add an overhead gantry around the pontoon for work lights and dive lights, and to run umbilical, power, and data cables clear of the deck. We can also extend this to frame tarpaulins for shelter from the rain or sun.
  • Survey Equipment: If diving works need sonar or survey sensors placed in the water, we can install a hinged survey pole and, if needed, fabricate adaptor plates to attach the equipment to the scaffold tube.
  • Stability & Licensing: Our pontoons all come with a stability assessment as standard, these meet relevant IMO standards.

Diving & UXO Case Studies

Scour Protection – Camarthen, Wales

Northern Divers required a self-propelled pontoon with a Hiab crane to support the installation of 14 x 700kg rock bags to provide scour protection to an exposed pipeline in the River Towy near Carmarthen.

Sub-sea Mattress Installation

Our sinking pontoon allowed ARC Marine® and Structural Evolution Ltd to install four 8t marine mattresses to cover a new seawater inlet pipe.

Self Propelled Moon pool

The client requested a self-propelled ScaffFloat for a special project in the UK so we provided a 14m x 6.4m pontoon with moon pool and 5t gantry

Diving pontoon

Northern Divers approached us to assist with UXO works in Great Yarmouth so we supplied a self-propelled 16 x 6.4m pontoon with skipper.
