ScaffFloat provides the perfect stable platform to carry out works on water-facing walls in harbours, rivers, canals & ports. We can give you safe floating access to work on piles, brick or block work, gabions, steel, or concrete.

Contractors love working from ScaffFloat because it is incredibly safe, stable, familiar, comes with really solid handrails for edge protection and we can add useful extras such as cranes, spuds, and access platforms. We can also carry a significant payload for plant (generators, welders etc), as well as materials (aggregate, cement etc) and tools. We can provide welfare on board if working on a remote site.

ACCESS HEIGHTS 

Working on a vertical wall from the water inevitably requires access to a big height range.

WATER LEVEL -1.0m to +10m

  • Below Water Level: We can add a shelf below the water to stand on in wellies or waders. This gives safe access to water level -1m.
  • Water Level: We can add a water level shelf that gives safe access to the wall to water level +2m and avoids workers leaning over the side of the pontoon.
  • Deck Level: Working from the deck level (around 0.6m above the water level) gives access to water level +2.6m.
  • At Height: We have various options to give access above the deck for heights above water level of 10m+. these include Podium Steps, Monkey Tower, Mobile Scaffold Tower, Fixed Scaffold Tower & MEWP (Mobile Elevated Work Platform).

  • ScaffFloat: An incredibly stable platform to work from, with the support of an experienced team that can help you plan your works in the most efficient way and make sure you are safe when working.
  • Handrails: These can come into contact with the structure, and if a hand is wrapped around the rail this can cause injury. Where appropriate we fit double handrails so the outer handrail comes into contact with the structure and protects the internal handrail used to hold onto.
  • Project Management: As work times can be dictated by tidal heights, we have tidal software that can give you estimated work times for you to plan your work around. We also can provide marine weather forecasting.
  • RAMS: We will provide full and comprehensive RAMS (Risk Assessments and Method Statements) for all floating access operations that we provide manned access for. These will be supplemented by daily toolbox talks and safety drills.
  • Inspections & DPRs: We us a digital app for all our inspections and DPRs (Daily Progress Reports) and you will receive a digital PDF copy of these automatically when they are completed on-site by our team. We set up a custom portal for each project allowing us to select the most relevant inspections for each project.
  • Stability: All our ScaffFloats come as standard with a stability assessment to IMO (International Marine Organisation) standards.
  • Compliance: We operate under a range of regulations; for the marine side it is the MCA, PLA & IMO which cover manning, safety equipment, stability standards and minimum freeboards. Most of TG20:13 and other scaffolding regulations are not relevant to what we do, but we do use elements of it for things like edge protection. For lifting we use Lloyd’s Register Code for Lifting Appliances in a Marine Environment and all our cranes are LOLER tested. To assess the structure, if needed, we use EuroCode EN1993-1-1-2005 & DNVGL-T-0378 and also refer to BS5975:2019 for temporary works. On larger projects we can also offer customers an independent Cat 3 check by our partner Richter; this gives our customers reassurance that we have taken a safe and prudent approach to our design and planned method of works.

Ferry Ramp Repairs – Southampton

GA Marine required assistance to undertake welding and replating of a roll on/roll off ferry ramp in Southampton docks that had been identified as requiring immediate repair

Ferry Ramp Replacement – Falmouth

A&P Falmouth requested our assistance to replace the rear ramps on the Irish Ferries vessel “Isles of Innisfree” while it was alongside their dock in Falmouth.

Workboat duties – APCL A&P Falmouth

We were requested by APCL A&P Falmouth to provide a workboat to support duties including access, moving fenders, push towing pontoons and barges, and assisting with other towing and ship positioning duties.

Blackwall Yard River Wall Repair

GPS MACS approached us to provide a pontoon with a monkey tower for some river wall repairs on the River Thames in London.

Geotechnical Drilling Pontoon

Fugro approached us to provide a pontoon with spud legs that would be suitable for drilling work in Dover harbour. 

River Lea

GPS MACS required a floating platform with lifting capabilities that could dry out on the steep mud banks of Thames to install ladders and fendering.
