Double Win for ScaffFloat at this year’s Seaworks awards in Southampton

The only company to ever win two awards in one year, the team won the Innovation Award for Vessel Design and Construction, followed by the Best Marine Civils Project Award. Both awards were to recognise the pioneering work in designing, manufacturing, and deploying its groundbreaking hoisted ScaffFloat in Tanzania

The client in Africa required access to over 100 piles that have been installed to support a new jetty on the Tanzanian coast. The ScaffFloat team designed two self-propelled pontoons that could float in under the jetty and then be hoisted out of the water. Once suspended just under the jetty, access staging boards were pulled across between the pontoons to give full 360-degree access to the pile caps.

During the preparation phase back in Cornwall, we placed significant emphasis on system integrity and safety. This included a comprehensive trial build and an extensive test run of the hoisting methodology with a simulated deck load and sea trials with an inclination test. The whole package was then packed into a shipping container in Penryn before being shipped out to Africa. Once the container had arrived in Tanzania, Deano flew out to oversee the pontoon build, conduct final trials, and provide extensive training for the client’s team during the operational handover.

These awards are a great recognition of the hard work that has gone into making the hoisted ScaffFloat a reality.  We look forward to utilising this additional capability on future projects.

We love projects just like this.  Problem solving, finding and developing practical solution.
