Diving pontoon

Problem

Northern Divers approached us to assist with diving operations. They needed a vessel that would enable them to have all of their dive equipment, welfare and ancillary equipment onboard. It also needed to be self-propelled with a dive entry and escape.

Due to the shallow water, tidal range and high water flow from the river spud legs were not suitable. The pontoon also needed to work around a buried gas main.

Solution

We mobilised a self propelled 16 x 6.4 pontoon with twin 60hp outboards and 1 x 20hp outboard, acting as a bow thruster to help ease the handling of the pontoon. A commercially endorsed skipper was provided to be able to position the pontoon accurately at each dive location.

The pontoon was held in position by twin anchor and winch set up, along with bow and stern lines to provide a stable and secure location to dive from.
