Problem
GPS MACS requested floating access to assist with the demolition of the outfall pipe structure at Barking Power Station.
Solution
The demolition of the power station outfall involved stripping the gantry and fendering, demolishing the concrete deck, removing the steel frame and cutting eight 1442mm piles below the bed level. GPS MACS then had to backfill the shaft and dredge pocket and re-grade to bed level, and place 2000t of rock armour for scour protection.
To support the demolition, ScaffFloat provided a 8x4m workboat with skipper and two high thrust 60hp engines. Two 8x4m pontoons with monkey tower and podium steps for access and one T-Finger pontoon for access between the piles.
All pontoons were licensed by the Port of London Authority for operating on the Thames.
