Problem
AR Demolition required water access to demolish an old set of piles and dolphins on the upper River Trent. The structure provided moorings for visiting barges to moor to, along with support for a conveyor that ran from the quarry.
As well as access, they also needed lifting for the steel sections as they were cut.
All in a river susceptible to flooding.
Solution
ScaffFloat: 16m x 6.4m self-propelled pontoon equipped with twin high-thrust 60hp outboards.
Access: Nifty Lift 90 MEWP as well as a Monkey Tower (adjustable podium steps)
Lifting: Deck-mounted HYVA HB60 crane that can lift 700kg at 8m, along with a hydraulic power unit. The crane base for the crane has been designed to Lloyds offshore lifting standards and was LOLER tested on site.
Mooring: 2 x 8m spud legs
Personnel: An experienced ScaffFloat skipper and crew ensured the safety of both the demolition team and the pontoon during operations.
Mobilisation: With limited access, we had to mobilise on the riverbank next to the structure. To assist, we built a platform of bog mats for the build, and then used the on-site excavator to drag the ScaffFloat into the water.
