Skipper and Crew

We have a network of experienced and qualified skippers around the UK that we can provide to skipper your ScaffFloat.

Often we are operating in and under marine structures like piers, dolphins and jetties. Working between piles can mean very limited tidal windows and restricted air drafts. This requires a specific skill set and is an environment we specialise in working in.

All our skippers not only hold the necessary qualifications, but have years of relevant experience to ensure we can keep you safe whilst you get on with your work.

Manning Levels

If a ScaffFloat has propulsion and is operating as a ‘vessel’, it is manned in accordance with MSN 1853. Therefore, it must be manned by at least two people at all times, we do not allow our skippers to operate alone.

For low-risk operations, it may be possible for those working on the pontoon to act as crew after we provide them with basic training.

For higher-risk projects, it will be necessary to have an experienced crew member onboard, dedicated to assisting the skipper and ensuring the safety of all onboard. We can provide experienced crew members to aid operations and cover pontoon movements in conjunction with the skipper. They can also be given the role of skippering the safety boat, watching contractors working from the ScaffFloat, making sure they are working safely and looking out for vessel wash.
