Problem
Edwards Diving Services contacted us about building a crane pontoon in Bath to act as a base for a team of divers and assist with the removal of trees from the water. The team had been tasked with removing trees that had fallen up stream of Cleveland Bridge and causing an obstruction around the bridge.
Due to the problems with mobilising a pontoon on that section of the river we suggested an alternative to a crane pontoon to deal with this problem. We suggested an 8m x 4m pontoon with an outboard and bow ramp that drops below the water. We would then fit a hauling 12v winch at the river and this can be used to haul the tree sections onto deck.
Solution
We ended up providing one 8m x 4m workboat and one 8m x 4m pontoon with deck winch and ramp. The mobilisation of the pontoon required us to contact a local farmer who agreed for us to use an out of use slipway on his land. We then had to clear the slipway and surrounding land to ensure that we had enough space to mobilise the pontoons and that there was suitable access for telehandler to come to the site to be able to put the pontoon into the water.
