MEWP/ Cherrypicker

Floating MEWP Access: A MEWP provides a very versatile access system when working on water. It is placed on the deck of the ScaffFloat which is then held securely in position next to the works area. Ideal for light works, inspections and other suitable works.

Managing Movement: At full height, 1 degree (or 1cm) of heel or trim at the deck level equates to 200mm in the platform basket. There are a number of measures we can take to make the pontoons more stable and reduce this movement, the most common being to increase the size of the ScaffFloat pontoon.

Proximity Limits: We take a number of measures to avoid the basket, or people within it, coming into contact with the structure they are working on. The primary measure we use is to always work with a minimum 0.5m gap (above, below or to the side) of the basket. To help manage this we fit the basket with a flexible plastic cage 0.4m outside the basket. It provides a very clear visual indicator that the 0.5m proximity limit has been breached and is flexible enough that if it comes into contact with the structure it can bend and deflect without causing any damage. It can also be fitted with an audible alarm.

General Notes:

1) We use our sea fastening system to strap the MEWP legs down to the pontoon.
2) When on hire the skipper manages the positioning of the pontoon, mooring system and keeps a look out for vessel wash. The IPAF 1b & 3b qualified crew supports the workers in the MEWP and operates the base controls in an emergency to get them back to deck.
3) Full RAMS and stability assessment provided.
4) Minimum size ScaffFloat 8m x 6.4m.
5) Mooring of the ScaffFloat to hold it stationary is a critical part of the method.
