Bedford Lock

Problem

Jackson needed to work on lock repairs at Bedford lock on the River Great Ouse, however there wasn’t anywhere suitable to mobilise at the site location. Also, along the route to the lock there was narrow access and a restricted bridge in the way which needed to be taken into consideration for the mobilisation.

To complete the works they required a narrow pontoon that would fit inside the lock.

Solution

We mobilised a 6.0 x 2.9m pontoon which was designed specifically to fit just inside the lock for repair works.

The pontoon was constructed from a 2.4 m wide main body, with a 0.5m water level shelf for access.

The pontoon was mobilised away from the site and then delivered to the local marina by HIAB truck. The pontoon was fitted with a 20hp outboard, so that it could travel from the marina to the lock site. Once at the lock, the pontoon could then be safely moored up and the engine removed from the pontoon.
